OVER 575 PEOPLE IN INVERCLYDE TRAINING AS MODERN APPRENTICES
Local SNP MSP Stuart McMillan has highlighted how apprenticeships are equipping the next generation in Inverclyde with the skills required for future jobs and industries as Scotland celebrates Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
Latest figures show that there were 579 people training as Modern Apprentices in Inverclyde at the end of last year with 313 starting new Modern Apprenticeships in 2024/25.
The SNP Scottish Government is investing around £198 million this year to support apprenticeships.
This investment is supporting around 25,500 new Modern Apprenticeships in 2025-26 and more than 39,000 Modern Apprentices currently in training across Scotland. The funding also supports 5,000 new Foundation Apprenticeships and more than 1,200 new Graduate Apprenticeships.
To mark Scottish Apprenticeship Week, Stuart visited River Clyde Homes’ Open Doors Event on Thursday 5 March where he met local apprentices with the housing association and their subsidiary, Home Fix Scotland.

“Scottish Apprenticeship Week is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate how apprenticeships are transforming lives in Inverclyde – which is why I was delighted to attend River Clyde Homes’ Open Doors Event.
“Apprenticeships play an important role in equipping young people with the skills required for future jobs and industry and in helping to grow the economy.
“Recognising the transformative role which apprenticeships play, the SNP Government is investing £198 million this year, and it is hugely encouraging that 579 in Inverclyde are in training as Modern Apprenticeships.
“The high-quality, rewarding jobs and careers that apprenticeships offer can support young people to reach their potential and offer a route out of poverty. This in turn helps to lay the groundwork to reduce child poverty, which is the SNP Government’s highest priority.
“The SNP Scottish Government will continue to work closely with industries and employers across the country to maximise the potential of apprentices, and ensure skills are being developed in the best way to help local and national economies to thrive.”
