Stuart McMillan MSP has secured a commitment from the Scottish Government for a new health centre in Port Glasgow – with the project being listed in the Infrastructure Delivery Pipeline document published alongside the Scottish Budget for 2026-27.
The local SNP MSP has been highlighting the need for a replacement for Port Glasgow Health Centre for several years, and last year he ramped up these efforts by inviting the Health Secretary to visit the facility.
Health Secretary Neil Gray MSP accepted Stuart’s invite and attended on 17 July 2025 to see first-hand the condition of the building and speak to staff who’re working hard to deliver primary care services despite the limitations of the facility.
The Infrastructure Delivery Pipeline confirms that a first tranche of investment for the Primary Care Investment Programme will progress through the development of three initial projects – one of which being a new Port Glasgow Health Centre.

“It’s well known that Port Glasgow needs a new health centre, so I welcome this commitment from the Scottish Government to prioritise this capital project.
“During his visit, the Health Secretary saw how hard staff are working to support patients in an ageing building, and he took on board the points raised about the health and population demographic needs of Port Glasgow too.
“The new £21m Greenock Health Centre, funded by the Scottish Government, has helped deliver more primary care services in the heart of the community, so I know how beneficial a new health centre in the Port town will be for the area.
“This investment demonstrates the SNP Scottish Government’s commitment to supporting our NHS to deliver more care in the community, and I look forward to engaging further with the Health Secretary and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as this project progresses.”
