PUBLICLY OWNED SCOTRAIL OUTPERFORMING REST OF UK
Scotland has the lowest rate of train cancellations in the UK, according to new figures from the Office of Rail and Road.
Only 2% of stops were cancelled in Scotland in 2024-25 – lower than 3.3% across the UK and less than half the rate of 4.5% in North East England.
Local MSP Stuart McMillan has said the figures show the difference the SNP bringing ScotRail back into public ownership has made to the quality of the rail service in Inverclyde and across Scotland.
Commenting, Stuart said:
“In 2022 the SNP brought ScotRail back into public ownership and since then, Scotland’s rail services have gone from strength to strength.
“Earlier this year a passenger survey found ScotRail was one of the best performing train operators in the UK with a customer satisfaction rate of 91%.
“Last month we scrapped peak rail fares, saving commuters across Scotland hundreds of pounds a year – and now, we see that cancellations on ScotRail trains are the lowest in UK, with less than half the cancellations proportionally of North East England.
“The SNP is the only party that always puts Scotland first – and we will continue to support strong public services like rail so that passengers get the service they deserve.”
